SUSTAINABLE SWITCH || My Current Favourite Eco-Friendly Brands
Of course as the industry currently stands, it would be extremely difficult for anyone to be 100% friendly in their everyday life – especially as a student – but we can however, try to buy cautiously. It’s no lie that fashion is one of the world’s most polluting industries, and this is something that’s been overlooked and disregarded for years. Only recently has the effect of fast fashion come to the forefront, with more brands and designers actively looking to move from unsustainable ways, to new eco-friendly production.
That being said, I have to be honest and say that I‘m no stranger to falling into the fast fashion trap. I personally find it relatively hard to find brands that are not only environmentally aware, but are also affordable and adhere to the student-life budget as well. So with this in mind, I thought it’d be useful for me to put together a list of the sustainable clothing brands/collections I’m loving right now – hopefully there’ll be a ‘lil’ something for everyone!
1. WEEKDAY

Think. Think. Re-think. What a slogan, right? Weekday caters for both men and women, and with hundreds of items to browse through, there’s likely to be something for everyone. What’s more? It’s massively budget-friendly. Usually high quality clothes that use recycled materials and organic cottons, equate to prices that just won’t cut it for students, but Weekday is a brand that can boast affordability. Every year they meet new goals and are 100% committed to doing better, so this is a company that’s definitely worth supporting.
2. LUCY AND YAK
If you’re looking for that vintage style look, Lucy and Yak will probably be the one for you. Founders Lucy Greenwood and Chris Renwick went from selling old-school finds on Depop, to creating one of the most talked about sustainable brands today. They’re a family business that care about both the social and environmental impact of fashion, so whether you’re interested in their basics or their brightly coloured dungarees and boilersuits, you can be assured that every package you receive will only contain biodegradable, re-usable, recycled and – of course – wearable items. Oh, and did I mention many of their items are unisex too?!
3. TALA

Admittedly, I haven’t been banging out gym as much as I should’ve been over the past few months, but whether you’re looking for activewear or comfortable clothing to lounge-about in, Tala is definitely a favourite. I personally feel like a lot of eco-friendly clothing brands lack in one of the following four; affordability, sustainability, quality, or style - but this brand combines them all. With their high-performance apparel that flatters and is inclusive of all body shapes, Tala aims create products that are 100% up-cycled and ethically-made. What sets it apart from others though, is their clothing tags that are made from 100% plantable paper. Meaning you can literally plant the tag, show it some love, and watch it grow into something beautiful - how mad is that?!

If you’re going to shop on ASOS, the responsible edit is the place to go. They take all the ethical brands and products on their site and conveniently showcase them in one area. With over 3700 products currently placed on there, you’re bound to find items that you adore for a fractional price, and even better, they all include recycled materials and/or sustainable fibers. Honestly, I think it’s great that companies like this are starting to introduce platforms that promote thoughtful buying. Even if they aren’t 100% ethical, it shows a step in the right direction.
A COUPLE MORE NOTABLE MENTIONS
Net Sustain – This is for my girls and guys that like a lil luxury. Net-a-Porter’s new platform helps shoppers easily discover ethically-made products and brands.
Well, I think that’s a wrap on my first post! Hope this helped - I’ll be back with another next Monday!
Love always,
